General Assembly 01: Aloha!
Written by Secretary General
Friday, 18 July 2008

The Computer Society of the Ateneo (CompSAt) held its first General Assembly last Friday, July 11, 2008. Members started to arrive one by one at 4:30 pm at the Leong Hall Roofdeck; some members were able to catch up during the middle of the GA since they have other matters to attend to (like NSTP Send-off Mass or the Guidance test). Adding a touch of Hawaiian, members were encouraged to come in their best Hawaiian attire. The hosts, Melody Carolino and Rodolfo Nokom (3BS CS), gave the members a warm welcome. Of course, every Atenean start their activities with a prayer, and for the GA, Abbie Lao led the prayer.

First thing’s first; we had to have some ice breaker since this is where old and new members get to meet each other. Hosted by our VP for Internal Affairs, Raisa Corpuz, the group dynamics was for everybody to gather around in a circle and hold the hands of the persons beside them. They also had to pass the hula hoop to the next person beside them without letting go of the hands they are holding. When the music stops, the person who has the hula hoop is called to the center of the circle and butt spell the name of the other person who also had the hoop.

Since everybody was warmed up after the GD, Kim Palpallatoc, CompSAt’s EVP, gave the opening remarks and introduced the current EB on behalf of the president, Salvador Reyes. Ms. Jessica Sugay, CompSAt’s moderator, was with us during the GA, and she also gave her welcoming remarks. The members were also given an overview of the different departments by the VPs of each department. In the middle of the talks, some sophomores presented a dance on the stage.

Who could ever miss the food? They prepared food which were easy to eat like hotdogs on a stick and hamburgers. After eating, Wilhansen Li encouraged the members to join the Imagine Cup by giving a short powerpoint presentation. After everything, the floor was open for anybody who would like to perform. Some members, old and new alike, sang on the stage to everyone's delight!
